Project Location:    Atlanta, Georgia

Project Use:           Football/Soccer Stadium


The Mercedes-Benz Stadium is home to many events, however, primarily home to the Atlanta Falcons of the NFL and Atlanta United FC of the MLS. This is a radially segmented stadium with a kinetic roof structure that opens much like the aperture of a camera. 

The aim of the recreation of this project is to not only recreate the kinetic roof, but to control the radial segments and various facets of the exterior.


Project Modeling

Step 1: Designate Construction Circles



Step 2: Rotate and Divide Circle



Step 3: Extrapolate 1st Two Division Points



Step 4: Project Key Points for Use in Creating a Planar Surface



Step 5: Create Planar Curves



Step 6: Create Surfaces from Boundaries



Step 7: Find Center of Circle



Step 8: Extrapolate Center Ring Points from Earlier



Step 9: Create Planar Curve



Step 10: Move Curve Vertically as Desired



Step 11: Mirror and Extrapolate Division Points (similar to step 3)




Step 12: Move and Connect Moved Points




Step 13: Create Planar Surfaces from Boundaries




Step 14: Make Aperture Piece Move Perpendicular to Center




Step 15: Polar Array Form Segment




Step 16: Apply Materials




Step 17: Create New Forms Utilizing the Designated Sliders
